Lady Gaga defends Ed Sheeran for abandoning Twitter

Lady Gaga defends Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran is one of the latest famous stars that are tired of being harassed on Twitter. Even though he hasn’t shut down his account completely, he has decided to stop interacting with his followers. You can see some recent tweets from this British singer’s account, but really they’re just reposts from his Instagram account, which has more than 969,000 followers. He decided this because he is “fed up” of being insulted and other offensive comments he receives through this media. In Britain’s main newspaper, The Sun, he said “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter is a platform for that.”

“One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I have come off it. It’s a headache for me trying to work out why people dislike me so much.” he states. Sheeran blames part of Lady Gaga’s followers for the negative harassment he received. “Lady Gaga’s fan base read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all really hate me. And it wasn’t anything to do with that at all.”

In this interview, the 26-year- old singer stated that he didn’t want to be a typical artist who gets top hit albums, then decides to choose a different style. ” You have to know how to listen to your fans, otherwise you are that artist who was interviewed year after year and considered to be the best artist that knows everything, but suddenly you’re a nobody. It’s smarter to listen to your fans.” Gaga’s fans, often called the Little Monsters, took the hint and full out attacked the British Twitter account with all type of comments.

When Gaga found out what had happened, she came to the defense of her friend and within hours, posted on her Instagram account a picture of both of them together and highlighted Sheeran’s professionalism. “What an incredible talented artist. I LOVE ED, he deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the Internet would be positive and loving and a part of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean. There is no reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top. Work harder to be kinder everybody. That should be your first duty to humanity. “, Wrote the writer of Bad Romance.

Sheeran has survived these well-known Internet Trolls and it isn’t the first time this has occurred. Many other artists and celebrities have faced similar situations and decided to eliminate their social media accounts, even if it was temporary. For example, Adele, Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, even Instagram’s queen Selena Gomez with more than 123 million followers. All of them closed their social media accounts permanently or temporary to “Detox” or stop fighting with these haters.

On the other hand, some don’t give in to peer pressure. Such is the case with the American singer Kelly Clarkson, after being insulted on Twitter with the following comment “You’re fat”, the first American Idol winner did not hold back in responding “and f***g wonderful”. Clarkson has more than 11 millions followers on this social media, was writing at that moment about celebrating July 4, Independence Day and she wasn’t going to let that negative comment rain on the importance of that day. In a matter of hours, her post had more than 15,000 likes and was shared more than 2,700 times.
